Driver Killed On Bishop Ford Freeway After SUV Wheel Hits Windshield

There was a Cook County fatal car accident Wednesday morning (July 23, 2014) on the Bishop Ford Freeway.   This accident involved a driver getting fatally struck by a rear wheel that came off of a Chevrolet Blazer.

According to the Illinois State Police (ISP), the accident happened at approximately 6:10 a.m. on I-94 near 130th Street.  The woman whose car was hit by the wheel was traveling northbound at the time of the accident; the Chevrolet Blazer that lost the wheel was traveling southbound on the Bishop Ford.  The wheel flew over the median before smashing into the windshield of the northbound car.

The driver of the car was identified as Jovanka Mijatov, 64, of Schererville, Indiana.  She was declared dead after being taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The driver of the Chevrolet Blazer whose wheel came off was identified as Marina Blanco, 48, of Hammond, Indiana.

According to the ISP, she was charged with having no valid insurance and no valid registration, as well as using unsafe tires.
