Fatal “Street Racing” Accident In Morton Grove

There was a fatal car crash Friday night (August 26, 2016) in Morton Grove.  One woman was killed during the crash and another person was injured.  The crash is considered a “hit & run” accident as one car’s occupants fled the accident scene.

According to Morton Grove Police, the accident happened near the intersection of Golf Road and Ozanam Avenue.

Details regarding the accident appear to be somewhat limited at this time.

At 11:30 p.m., according to witness accounts, a black car traveling at a high rate of speed (approximately 100 miles per hour according to an August 28 Chicago Tribune article) that may have been “street racing” with another vehicle struck a SUV.  The SUV was heavily damaged as a result of the crash.

The occupants of the SUV included Denise Cavada, 49, of Chicago.  She was killed during the crash.  There was another person involved in the crash who was taken to a local hospital for treatment of accident injuries.

The occupants of the black car fled the accident scene on foot.  Two passengers of that car were taken into custody.

Other residents said some drivers travel at high rates of speed at night along that particular stretch of road, making for potentially dangerous, and in the case of Friday’s crash, fatal situations.

Fatal Hit-And-Run Accident On Chicago’s Southwest Side

There was a fatal “hit & run” accident late Saturday (April 30, 2016) evening in Chicago’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

According to Chicago Police, the accident happened at approximately 10:45 p.m., as a 42-year-old woman and 39-year-old man were walking across South Archer Avenue (at the intersection with South Lavergne Avenue) when they were struck by a red Jeep.

The woman was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment of her accident injuries.  She was later pronounced dead.

The man was taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn for treatment of his accident injuries.  He was reported to be in stable condition.

Hit & Run Accident In Cicero Injures Woman And Girl

Hit-and-run accidents in Chicago and elsewhere in Cook County are a significant issue.  Often, those hit-and-run drivers fail to stop as they are intoxicated on either alcohol and/or drugs.  Other times, hit-and-run drivers are speeding and/or driving recklessly, and they don’t want to stop as they fear the ramifications of being held at fault for their actions.

On Sunday evening (March 13, 2016) there was a hit-and-run accident in Cicero in which a woman and her 10-year-old goddaughter were struck.

According to a city spokesperson, the accident happened at approximately 5:15 p.m., as the woman and girl were crossing the street in the 5500 block of West Cermak Road.  At that time they were struck by a silver sedan, which fled the scene after striking the pedestrians.

The woman, identified as Sonia Castrejon, 44, and the girl, Lizette Castrejon, were critically injured during the accident and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago for treatment of their accident injuries.

The driver of the car is described as a “heavy-set” Hispanic male who is bald, and has significant facial hair.

The silver sedan was damaged on the right side, and is missing its right headlight and side mirror.

Hit & Run Accident Involving Two Girls

There was a hit & run accident in which two schoolchildren were hit in Chicago’s Portage Park neighborhood on Tuesday, February 16, 2016.  A Chicago Public School teacher has been charged with DUI as well as other charges in relation to the accident.

The driver of the car was identified as Matthew Lucchini, 26, of Naperville.  He has been charged with drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk and negligent driving.

North Lawndale Fatal Hit & Run Acccident

There was a fatal hit & run accident on Thursday night (December 24, 2015) in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood.

According to Chicago Police, the accident happened in the 4200 block of West Ogden Avenue at approximately 10:00 p.m.  At that time, a woman, who was pregnant, was struck by a car.  The car left the accident scene.

The woman, identified as Karla Leanos, 26, of Chicago, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment of her accident injuries.  She was pronounced dead there, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Doctors were able to deliver the (unborn) baby boy.

Fatal Niles Pedestrian Accident

There was a fatal pedestrian hit & run accident Thursday night (September 17, 2015) in Niles.  The accident happened in the 8600 block of Golf Road, which is just west of Greenwood.

According to Niles Police, the accident happened at approximately 11:00 p.m., as a man was walking north across Golf Road.

At that time, he was struck by a SUV going west on Golf Road.  The SUV did not stop after striking the man.

The man was identified as Takeusz Dec, 55, of Niles.

The Niles Fire Department transported Dec to Lutheran General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m., police said.

Fatal Pedestrian Accident In Mount Prospect

According to police, the victim was a 46-year-old man who died after being struck by a car in the 1800 block of West Algonquin Road.  The accident happened at approximately 8:15 p.m.

Woman Dies After Hit & Run Accident In Englewood

There was a fatal hit & run accident in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood on Thursday afternoon, March 12, 2015.

According to Chicago Police, this accident involved a car, driven by a 69-year-old driver, hitting a 22-year-old woman who was crossing the street at West 61st and South Halsted Streets.  The accident happened at approximately 1:45 p.m.

The woman was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, where she later died.  According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the woman was identified as Jazzalyn Fontanez, 22, of Chicago.

The driver continued driving until he was stopped by Chicago Police about a mile away.

According to Chicago Police, charges are pending against the driver.

Woman Injured During Hit & Run Accident In Chicago’s Dunning Neighborhood

Chicago Police are continuing to search for the driver involved in a hit & run accident that happened on February 24, 2015 in Chicago’s Dunning neighborhood.  The woman struck by the car was injured and admitted to a hospital in critical condition.

According to Chicago Police, the hit & run accident happened at approximately 6:25 p.m. in the 3400 block of North Harlem Avenue.  The woman hit was 55 years old, and she was struck while attempting to cross the street.

Hit & Run Accident In Chicago’s West Pullman Neighborhood

There was a Chicago hit & run accident in which a crossing guard was struck by a sports utility vehicle Monday (January 12, 2015) in the West Pullman neighborhood.

The accident happened at approximately 3:58 p.m., as a crossing guard, identified as a 27-year-old woman, was struck at the West 127th Street and Union Avenue intersection.

At the time of the accident, the crossing guard had a “stop sign” displayed and a child at her side.

According to Chicago Police, the woman suffered several severe injuries.

The SUV is described as being dark-colored, and was last seen heading west on North Emerald at a high speed.
